Once upon a time in a desert where apples grow, a young man comes of age with the help of inebriates, the inebriated, a hippie girl, a dilettante, and a flathead V8 Ford pickup. This as-it-was romp through the backwaters of Washington State's famous apple country is both timely and timeless. Though much of the people and places described have succumbed to corporate agriculture and its practices, this American story of the journey from the limitations of the working rural life to the possibilities of the world beyond is as evergreen as the Evergreen State. About the Author: Dan Owens went on from casual labor to degrees from Evergreen College and the London Film School. He worked for decades in Los Angeles at Panavision as a Master Machinist. In between he owned a home in the Hollywood Hills; married into a wonderful African American family; and most recently was driving long haul truck based out of his new life in Las Cruces, New Mexico. His mother who resides in the same house in Wenatchee, will soon be 100 years old
