The Channel Islands, 1803 After the short-lived peace of Amiens, the French have recaptured the English Channel Islands again and this time the occupation will be much worse, with more death, and more destruction, for the new commander is not easy going, as had been the previous one. The Inquisition, under the leadership of a Senior Witch-Sniffer from Rome, is determined to stamp out the heresies of magic and paganism. A mad genius has invented a secret weapon that is certain to guarantee the conquest of England for Napoleon and he hopes to launch it from the Channel Isles so close to Britain. The Guernaise must fight back, but how? They have no weapons and the French have conscripted all able-bodied men into their army. In the midst of this uncertainty a Gypsy girl finds a young man without a memory on a beach and claims him as her husband.
