A wealthy man, in a fit of anger, slaughters a black sheep that has been causing him trouble. Soon afterwards, a mysterious stranger offers to get rid of the carcass and does so without leaving any trace of its existence. Some weeks later, the same stranger appears with an unusual garment, a shawl with sleeves, which he insists on donating to the wealthy man and his wife. An odd series of events follows, with fatal consequences for a nightmare-plagued friend and a shock ending that baffles the police and leaves a senior officer unable to explain why he is present at a crime scene.
