This is a brave book, written well, by an abuse survivor who has something to offer. He gives an astonishingly clear view into a world usually kept hidden by shame and distaste. Alan Mackie is a thoughtful, intelligent man who was able to revisit his traumatic past and lay bare the things that sent him on a downward path of mental illness and despair. His strength and a good counsellor pulled him back from the depths to lead a rich, constructive life of caring for others. This is a valuable reference for those dealing with childhood abuse, either as victims or the professionals caring for them.
