The film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games premiered when I was in eighth grade. It had become such a sweeping sensation that my middle school deferred the day's lesson plans to cram 163 gawky adolescents onto a few buses to see the film, just a few hours after it hit theaters. I vividly recall a classmate, who, as we filed in the hallway to leave, raised her hand and said, "Don't school trips have to be educational?" I remember rolling my eyes in exasperation at the sycophantic inquiry, but then laughing as my teacher replied facetiously, "The movie sort of relates to government..."
