My life has been far from typical; it's a tapestry woven with complexity, and these intricacies have only deepened with time. When I gaze into the mirror, I see not one, but two men staring back at me--the person I am today, and the person I aspire to be. Perhaps, one day, these two facets of myself will merge to form an incredible force. For most of my life, I've called E. St. Louis, Illinois my home, but my childhood was a tumultuous journey filled with uncertainties. My parents often found themselves at odds, and the echoes of their fights were frequent events in our home. I loved them both equally, yet I couldn't fathom why they couldn't find common ground and exhibit love towards one another. They did their best, given the circumstances, but my early years exposed me to the darker aspects of human nature and the imaginary monsters of television. Looking back, I don't dwell on my past with regret, but there were moments when I felt as though life had dealt me an unfair hand. However, as I've come to realize, my youth provided me with invaluable life lessons and equipped me to achieve numerous social goals, which would later prove essential in navigating the turbulent seas of life.
