Rodney Pretzer's life took an unexpected turn in 1996 when he was diagnosed at the age of 26 with Wolf/Parkinson/White Syndrome (WPW), a heart condition that required surgery. This was done at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Then, five years later, at the age of 32, he had to have a double chamber heart pacemaker placed.
