East of The County (The Starspill Trilogy)

In a world where nearly every human mind is held in thrall by the godlike Emperor, how will a tiny group of rebels make any difference faced with such odds? The girl, East, is freed from the thrall by Ophelia, leader of the rebel group called the Dissenters. Her awakening is heralded by a massive explosion that rips through the County. Ophelia manages to suppress the power to prevent the Emperor from finding the girl, but as time wears on, East learns how to tap into the power on her own, filling her with a dangerous confidence. Though the Dissenters seek to discover the ways of the Emperor in order to destroy him, East is more concerned with the safety of her sister whom she ran away from when their brother went missing. Her obsession is only heightened by the dreams that keep coming to her about her brother who she thought had died falling into the river Starspill. Meanwhile as East grows in strength, Ophelia's control is waning. An evil spirit dwells in her body alongside her and is gaining strength, drawing her attention inward and leaving the Dissenters frustrated and dissatisfied with her leadership. East of The County is part of a trilogy, so there will be more to come. The Starspill Trilogy concerns the humans of Farther Ground, of which the County is a part, as they attempt to dislodge the greater powers that control their world. Their efforts may cause the collapse of entire civilizations and could even unravel the fabric of life in Farther Ground entirely, causing them to constantly consider what the price of freedom really is and if the world truly deserves their help. This book is generally suitable for ages 12+ but contains scenes of human dissection. This book is a work of dystopian fantasy, it also deals with divinity and the place of humanity in the scheme of life. The inspiration came years ago, in a dream of a city where the rain never ceased and the people always walked to the same beat. Since then a story has grown up about it, and the people of the city have come to life.
