This collection of immigrant stories is timely considering our current political climate. The plight of immigrants is becoming an international discussion, as immigrants are forced to leave their countries and homelands because of poverty, violence, and corruption. They are not choosing to be uprooted. Rather, they are exercising what they consider to be their only option for the survival of their families.Immigrants are being demonized unfairly and unnecessarily, and we need to tell their stories so that we can all have a better understanding of the immigrant plight and why they were obligated to leave their homes and suffer as they have. It is with that purpose that this collection of personal immigrant experiences is presented.I also intended that my students' personal narratives included in these pages will inspire other teachers to write their own personal stories, use them as motivation for their students, and help them see the value of their immigrant experiences.
