Unfortunately, the hurricane of 1885 destroyed all of it in one wide sweep. There is now no evidence that it ever existed. Therefore Edisto Beach is not the first place where people came to enjoy the ocean off Edisto Island. This is what this book is all about, the beginning and ending of Edingsville.
