Coffee was her color is the true story of a young black female name Unique who died at the young age of 19 from HIV/AIDS. The name Coffee was given to her by Kasreeyl Perry because she had a coffee complexion and was strong like coffee, according to Kasreeyl Perry. Coffee grew up in a very hard life on the streets of Atlanta. She never knew her parents and was in foster care up until the age of 14, when she ran away after being repeatedly raped by her foster parent and forced to get an abortion. At 18 she met a young soldier from Philadelphia stationed in Georgia, named Kasreeyl Perry. The two became real close and had a deep love for each other. They both agreed that they valued each others friendship and agreed to be friends even though they loved each other. While Kasreeyl was stationed over seas Coffee's life seemed to spiral out of control. She started living a care free life to cope with pain from her past and searching for a love she never had through the wrong people. While in the process she contracted the HIV/AIDS virus. The book is written by Author Kasreeyl Perry in a journal format, which also contains Coffee's Journal that she asked Kasreeyl to publish before she died. It's a sad but beautiful story, short and packed with romance and tragedy. It's a must read for sure.
