I'm Aasiya from Colibri-Cay: A story about the courage to love (colour edition)

This is the colour edition of I'm Aasiya from Colibri-Cay, a story about a 16-year-old high school student living in an imaginary island, resplendently radiant, surrounded by the warm and dazzling Caribbean Sea. The island with its white sandy beaches, blue green mountains, deep cool caves, numerous rivers, above and underground, waterfalls, colourful birds, interesting wildlife, pretty flowers and magnificent trees, is matchless in its splendour. The early islanders of Colibri-Cay were miraculously able to evade the ravages of colonialism and Africans, Ta?no, Europeans and Asians magically found their way to this uninhabited island as they escaped brutal oppression and massacres, racism, poverty, rising crime and were able to create a safe haven despite the worst natural disasters. Aasiya's grandmother is a direct descendant of two of these early inhabitants, the runaway Ta?no woman and African man who fled the island the Ta?no called Yamaye, now known as Jamaica.Aasiya was named after Queen Asiya of the Bible and Quran. Queen Asiya was the queen who found baby Moses, rescued him and raised in up in the palace of the Pharaoh in Egypt, the same pharaoh that ordered the slaughter of the Hebrew babies. Aasiya loves to study ancient civilizations and the reader will discover, along with Aasiya that some things haven't changed since the days of the pharaohs.The island of Colibri-Cay has some very marked differences with the world surrounding it, even though it finds itself smack in the centre of modern times. The island's queen, born in the early 1900th century, spearheaded the building of a just and caring, environmentally sustainable and flourishing society, a society that welcomes all refugees, that guarantees the human rights of each citizen, man or woman, and protects the freedom of religion. The island's much loved queen, known as the Nameless, Faceless Queen, though rarely seen, has the devotion of her people who are prosperous, healthy and happy. Aasiya is a prefect and along with other students from many countries, they lead a charming life with their Cuban house mother in a bamboo tree house dormitory. Bamboo is one of the islands most sustainable and renewable building materials. The reader will discover that life can be beautiful when people are treated with dignity, respect and compassion and when children and youth are given a 21st century education that prepares them for marriage, family life, community building and financial independence in an ever shrinking global society with more and more astounding technological advances. Aasiya falls in love with an Egyptian man whose family fled their homeland because of religious persecution. Readers must decide for themselves if they feel the couple is mature enough to create a successful marriage and if the island has enough supports in place for young families. I'm Aasiya from Colibri-Cay was written in the hope that readers will be encouraged to dream of a world, a paradise on earth, where people are diverse yet unified, where people are friendly and gentle towards each other, where the beliefs of all people are respected, where the environment is cherished and cared for and children grow to become world citizens, loving all humanity.
