Die Finanzkrise unter dem Blickwinkel des Utilitarismus

Jhs. unternahm Jeremy Bentham den Versuch, aus der Ethik eine exakte Wissenschaft zu machen. Er wollte damit der auf Tradition, Verk?ndigung oder Intuition basierenden Moral eine gesicherte Grundlage verschaffen und sie damit auch entsprechend korrigieren. Er gr?ndete das moralische Handeln auf das Prinzip der N?tzlichkeit (Utility). "Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the one hand the standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain of causes and effects are fastened to their throne. ... The principle of utility recognizes this subjection, ..." Von diesem Ansatz her beurteilt der Utilitarist "Handlungen, Normen und Institutionen". Ist eine Handlung moralisch richtig, so hat sie zur Folge, dass Freude oder Lust vermehrt und Leiden oder Schmerz verhindert werden. "By the principle of utility is meant that principle which approves or disapproves of every action whatsoever, according to the tendency which it appears to have to augment or diminish the happiness of the party whose interest is in question..." An diesen Grundsatz kn?pft Bentham eine Zielbestimmung an: "It is the happiness of the greatest number that is the measure of right and wrong." Was die Handlungen der Menschen bestimmt, ist zugleich das Erstrebenswerte. "Im Kern der Theorie werden eine deskriptiv-anthropologische und eine normativ-ethische These verbunden."
