EU-Russia Energy Cooperation: Political Aspects

The work is devoted to political aspects of EU-Russia energy cooperation. Energy is the sphere where both strongly depend on each other. EU-Russia relationship affects the international context. There are various stages and priority areas in EU external energy policy and it is legally based on a number of documents that initiate and establish it. EU external energy policy has a prominent Russian vector, which developed into EU-Russia energy dialogue. Its practical outcome is in a number of mutually interesting projects in the field of cooperative infrastructure development. However, there are some tensions created by the restrictive rules in the energy sector introduced by the EU. Energy cooperation and a constructive energy dialogue could help avoid a lot of serious problems in the near future. EU-Russia energy dialogue aims at ensuring reliability, safety and predictability of their cooperation in the energy sector during a long-term period under the conditions of open market environment. The main goal of energy dialogue is to deepen the mutually advantageous EU-Russia cooperation in the energy sector.
