The Family Acanthaceae for the Flora of Manipur

The family Acanthaceae has been studied and revised taxonomically after a period of 50 years since Deb in 1961 published list of these family members for the state of Manipur. The study reveals that there are 19 genera, 37 species and 1 variety in the present political boundaries of Manipur. Thirteen (13) species and four genera are new addition for the Acanthaceae flora of Manipur. Rediscovery of two pliestesial plant were also included. Literature of Acanthaceae pertaining to India and particular to Manipur has been reviewed. The detail taxonomic criteria, plant description, nomenclatural changes, photographic illustration, phenology, field status, distribution, synonyms mentioned in major floras and conservation status of the species of each plant are given. Dichotomous keys to the genera, species, and varieties are provided. Significant ethnobotanical aspects of 21 acanthaceae species wherever necessary are also provided. This is the first hand information on this family, hence it would be useful to researchers and students.
