There has been a decided lack of scholarship relating to dance and its role in the ancient Egyptian religion. In those distant times dance held a place of much greater importance than it does today. Dancers and singers were even considered to be members of the clergy and many High Priestesses were temple dancers or singers. While there has been some effort to study the ancient forms of dance, there has been a paucity of attention made to linking dance to other archaeological discoveries. One of the major resources has been Lexanova's - written in 1937. It is hoped that Aegyptic Dance will suggest sufficient sources to enable further, deeper research into the subject.Aegyptic Dance tries to bring disparate sources of dance history and sociology into one place to ease availability for the student of dance. In ancient times dance held higher social and religious status than at present and dancers were considered members of the clergy of the major Kemetic sects. Many High Priestesses, especially of Hathor, were temple dancers, and dance was an important part of religious and secular celebrations and devotions as well as funeral interment rites..
