For this Central Pollution Control Board executed a nation-wide programme of ambient air quality monitoring known as National Air Quality Monitoring Programme .The objectives is to determine status and trends of ambient air quality; to ascertain whether the prescribed ambient air quality standards are violated; to Identify Non-attainment Cities i.e. Air Quality of these cities is categorized into low, moderate, high and critical depending upon the specific pollutant concentration with respect to NAAQS standards; to obtain the knowledge and understanding necessary for developing preventive and corrective measures. It is an effective and versatile tool for the assessment of Air Quality.
