Prefirieron Morir: La Cobardía de Los Dirigentes Nazis Ante La Derrota / They Preferred to Die
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
Hitler's suicide on April 30, 1945, set off a chain reaction among Nazi officials.
Many of the F?hrer's closest collaborators followed his example and chose death; the first of them, Goebbels, with his entire family. It is estimated that in 1945 at least two hundred Nazi leaders committed suicide to avoid being captured by the Soviets, to evade punishment from the Allies or for refusing to accept the fall of the Third Reich.
Suicide as a "final solution" for the Nazi elite is a little-studied phenomenon that Philippe Valode analyzes in this book based on six exemplary cases: those of Rommel, Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, Hess and G?ring. These are paradigmatic cases that shed light on many others, those of thousands of territorial administrators, civil servants, professionals of all kinds or committed manufacturers, officers or workers of the concentration camps who, at the end of the war, also preferred to die.
