In Hans Heinrich Stern s (1992) 'cultural syllabus' the premise is language related to the situational context in which it occurs. Designers predict situations the learners find themselves in, and utilize these; for example, the British Council s going to the cinema LearnEnglish Teens listening exercise in which pictures are presented from movie genres, and the students are asked to complete a tick-box exercise to determine whether they think the picture is from a horror, science fiction, romance, comedy, action, historical drama, or cartoon film. In culturally based situations, language is used and learned, so elements of the cultural syllabus are important for the multi-approach.
