Self-emulsifying drug delivery methods increase the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble medications. SEDDS are primarily manufactured as liquid formulations, which have poor stability and mobility, low drug loading, a limited number of dosage form options, irreversible drug/excipient precipitation, and a high proportion (30-60%) of surfactants that might irritate the gastrointestinal system. Solid-SEDDS has been studied to avoid the problems of liquid SEDDS. The adsorption of liquid self-micro-emulsified formulations on solid carriers is one of the best ways to create free-flowing powders for compression into tablet dosage form (SMET).
