Fundamentals of Computer Architecture & Organization

Computer architecture refers to the design and organization of a computer's internal components, including the relationships between them. It encompasses the instruction set architecture, microarchitecture, system interconnects, memory hierarchy, and input/output systems. The goal of computer architecture is to optimize performance, minimize power consumption, maximize scalability and reliability, and enhance security and privacy. At its core, computer architecture is based on the Von Neumann architecture, which separates the central processing unit (CPU) from memory and input/output devices. This fundamental design has evolved over time, with advancements in technologies leading to the development of RISC and CISC architectures, pipelining, superscalar execution, multithreading, and multiprocessing.
