Spectroscopic processes with lignins

In this work we present ultra-thin films (nanometers thick) of lignins extracted from sugar cane bagasse using the vacuum evaporation technique (physical vapor deposition - PVD) with the aim of advancing the study of the molecular properties of lignins. The main information obtained in this project refers to the possibility of manufacturing quality PVD films in terms of the chemical integrity of the molecule, since they will be heated, as well as optimizing the control of the thickness, homogeneity and molecular arrangement of these lignins in the PVD films. Film growth was monitored using ultraviolet and visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy, while chemical integrity was checked using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) absorption spectroscopy. The lignin studied was extracted from sugarcane bagasse via a "modified organosolve" process using different organic solvents.
