Schools Annexes

This book deals with public primary education, and how this level of education is currently being offered in S?o Lu?s - Maranh?o, since the expansion of this network of schools has taken place through a strategy known as Annex Schools. Thus, the need to meet the educational demands of the population and solve the problem of universalising this level of education, especially for the low-income population, has not been solved by creating new schools, but by extending the scope of existing schools in the form of Annex Schools. This is a school model that operates largely in rented, leased or borrowed buildings, which tend to be adapted so that they look as much like a school as possible, thus having inferior infrastructure to the parent Basic Education Units (UEBs) from which they expand. Based on this observation, the book deals with the structural and operational situation in which some primary schools find themselves, with a view to demonstrating how this reflects on the fulfilment of the right to quality public education offered by the Brazilian state to the working classes.
