The first of its kind, this book is the culmination of the efforts of the Maritime Navigation Commission Working Group. It compiles the specialized international design provisions made to protect the world's diverse port structures from the effects of earthquakes and seismic activity. The book introduces basic simplified earthquake engineering concepts and performance-based design strategies, methods, guidelines, and analysis tools. It also includes several technical commentaries that illustrate ideas and reinforce its flexible, consistent methodology, which addresses waterfront development, land-sea transport connections, and the accommodation of large vessels and hazardous materials.
