An Introduction to Numerical Computation

The text is an elementary one of numerical analysis upgraded with some simple MATLAB codes (scripts, functions) and pseudo-codes implementing some selected algorithms. The use of built in MATLAB's functions is sometimes suggested. Throughout the entire text the rigorous proofs of the fundamental results are skipped but in compensation the author provides the key mathematical ideas behind these results. This fact facilitates the correct understanding of the numerical algorithms. Actually, the style of the writing is plainly colloquial, closed to the classroom exposure. Every chapter ends with a set of gradually ordered homework problems, some of them asking a MATLAB code in order to be solved. As a whole, the text can be useful for both classes of beginners in mathematics and scientific computing. It is supplemented by two sets of videos from the author's Youtube channel.
