About the Book
"The history of Dagbon has been told over and over both in writing and orally, but this book is different because it digs deep into the past, beyond the much popular chronicles of the ruling classes of the Gbewa States to ferret out the untold, neglected or forgotten past of the aboriginal Dagomba who inhabited these lands long before the arrival of the invading descendants." Dr. Salifu Nantogma Alhassan, Lakeside University College, Accra.
The book digs deep into the past to unearth the historical antecedents which led to the uninformed historical lumping of the aboriginal Dagomba and the invading Gbewa stock. It uncovers how the modern Dagomba became an amalgam of the aboriginal Dagomba and the invading Gbewa descendants. It goes beyond the much-touted legendary Toha Zei as ancestral father of most ethnic groups domiciled in the largest part of the Voltaic Basin (stretching from the Togo boarder in the east to the two Upper Regions of Ghana, and parts of Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and north-eastern Togo).
The book also resolves the crisis contained in historical accounts about the identity of the autochthones who Na Gbewa and his descendants met and conquered. It provides historical answers which may be useful in mediations aimed at ending the decades of needless inter-ethnic conflicts.
