The Birds and The Beasts is about Barnum's mental health journey - early trauma that lead to mental illnesses, therapists who helped her weed through the mess of it all, becoming a mother, and trying to navigate the effects of the trauma in real time. The Birds and The Beasts is Barnum's way to help other's who also suffer from mental illnesses, to not feel so alone.
