The legends, myths, colour and the relative seclusion of Wales, particularly the north, is a mecca for writers, and I'm one of them.

Sitting on a three-thousand-year-old bronze age burial stone overlooking a twelfth century castle built to protect the route from Caenarfon to the upper Conway valley made me chill with excitiement, that and the rain.

Scrambling up the moss-covered slope of Dinas Emrys to find King Vortegern's hill fort, where legend has it Merlin first came on the scene and the first, but not the last, battle between the red and the white dragons took place.
