Four letters, six concepts... The abbreviation stands for the first letters of the English terms "bondage and discipline", "dominance and submission", "sadism and masochism". These include various sexual practices that are interconnected and considered by many to be unconventional. Viewed from the outside, BDSM activities are difficult to understand for many due to their supposed intensity and are subject to prejudice because they do not correspond to the traditional image of loving sexuality. In fact, BDSM goes far beyond the mere use of physical or psychological violence and the infliction of pain. On the contrary, this type of eroticism requires a deep connection and a high level of understanding between those involved. Deviance is about people who consciously and voluntarily move from a position of equality into an imbalance of power from which everyone involved derives pleasure and satisfaction.
