Diana's father had just been murdered by his gang for ratting them out to the police, and they had come for what he owed them. Horses, cattle and all they claimed had been purchased with the filthy money her father had made from stolen items.
Surviving on these terms has been hard. A whole year of struggling to get by in Texas had been hard on all of them especially their mother.
