Heterocyclic compounds are one of the most important areas of organic chemistry due to their presence in unlimited number and variety. These compounds have attracted the interest of chemists, pharmacologists and biologists due to their significant therapeutic and biological activities. Besides this, most of the natural products possess a variety of heterocyclic systems. Our main research is focused on the potential role of pyridazine as biological active scaffold. Pyridazine, sometimes referred as 1,2-diazine is a planer molecule and may be represented by two Kekule structures Historically, pyridazine was named by Knorr and Tuber was the first to synthesize the unsubstituted pyridazine. At room temperature, it is a colorless liquid with pyridine like odor, owing to its imine functional groups, and has a relatively high boiling point (208 C) and low melting point (-80 C). It is a common building block for the synthesis of various complex heterocyclic compounds in industry and research. Pyridazine is known for its significance as electron efficient acceptor due to the presence of the π-deficient nitrogen. This aromatic heterocycle is more easily soluble in water as compared to other N-containing azines and work as a ligand in several coordination complexes. Pyridazine, rarely exists in nature probably due to presence of N-N bond however, pyridazomycin 2, an antifungal and antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces violaceoniger sp. griseofucus, represents the first example of a naturally occurring pyridazine. Another named pyridazine natural product Azamerone 3 was isolated from the marine sediment-derived bacterium Streptomyces sp.
