Beneath Broken Stars

The train rattled along its tracks, carrying Emma toward an uncertain horizon. Her reflection in the glass was a pale ghost haunted eyes, shadows of old bruises barely visible in the dim light. She took a deep, measured breath, feeling each exhalation draw her closer to freedom and further from the life she had known.
