Sound Sense: Letters, Vowels, and Beyond: Exploring Sounds and long vowels

This workbook is the second in the series, building upon the foundations of the first book, which focused on CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words with short vowels. This new workbook takes students to the next level of learning.

In this section, students will explore letters that produce more than one sound. Special letters like Y, C, and G can change their sounds based on their position in words. Through engaging phonics activities, students will break down individual sounds, blend them, and gain an understanding of how these letters behave differently. Exercises such as sound tracing, blending practice, and phonics drills will help strengthen word recognition and build strong foundational skills.

The vowels A, E, and I come with their own surprises, each having different sounds. Students will learn how these vowels change their pronunciation in words. For example, A can sound like "a" in "cat" or "ay" in "cake," E can sound like "e" in "pen" or "ee" in "see," and I can sound like "i" in "sit" or "eye" in "fly." Through activities such as reading exercises, word matching, and hands-on phonics practice, students will develop confidence in identifying and using long vowel sounds, enhancing their fluency and understanding of word meanings and structures.
