Luigi Pio Tessitori, fondly remembered as L. P. Tessitori, was born on December 13, 1887, in Udine, a city in northeastern Italy. He was the son of Guilde Tessitori, a worker at a foundling hospital, and Lugia Rosa Venier Romano. Tessitori received his early education at Liceo Classico Jacopo Stellini, Udine's esteemed classical high school. His intellectual curiosity led him to pursue a degree in humanities at the University of Florence, where he graduated in 1910. A diligent and introspective student, Tessitori developed a profound interest in Indian culture, language, and literature, becoming proficient in Sanskrit, Pali, and Prakrit and he became passionate to learn and understand Jain Literature. He learnt ancient Indian languages just to understand Jain Manuscripts, which were written in Pali, Prakrit and Sanskrit languages. He used to visit the Upasara (Upasara is the place where Jain monks stay) in Rangdi in Bikaner almost daily and learn Jain philosophy from Jain Monks in that Upasara.
