1 and 2 Thessalonians are letters from the Apostle Paul to remind the new believers facing persecution in Thessalonica of the basics of their faith and to give them hope in difficult times.
In 1 Thessalonians, Paul praises the church for turning away from idols to serve the true and living God and encourages them to live holy lives and to love each other increasingly. Paul also talks about the return of Jesus, explaining that those who have died in Christ will rise first, and then all believers will be with the Lord forever.
Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians shortly after the first letter because he had heard that the church was still facing trouble. Some people were saying that Jesus had already returned, so Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians to clear up this misunderstanding, telling the Thessalonian believers that certain things must happen before Jesus comes back. He also encourages them to stand firm in their faith and not to grow weary in doing good.
Both letters teach us how to live as Christians while waiting for Jesus to return. They show us how to remain hopeful, how to face hardships with faith, and how to lead lives that please God.
