During mating season, males make the characteristic "jug-o-rum" sound that reverberates throughout ponds and wetlands, indicating their presence and claiming authority.

Across North America, freshwater environments like ponds, lakes, marshes, and slow-moving streams are the main places to find edible bullfrogs. They favor calm, shallow waters that are rich in vegetation for cover and hunting.
Bullfrogs can be found in many different places, ranging from the southern United States to Canada, where they have adapted to a variety of climates and ecosystems. Their success as a species and wide distribution are partly due to their capacity to flourish in environments that have been influenced by humans as well as those that are not.
