I Get Up is a book of hope, discovery, and resilience that expands on a collection of poems I wrote during a time period of almost 2 decades. It covers themes such as emerging adulthood, women's body issues, recovery, faith, family, depression, accomplishing dreams, and empowerment.

Vanessa is a Master of Social Work student. She enjoys painting, writing, walking, and spending time with her dog Charlie. She appreciates learning and applying knowledge about social issues. She understands that people are a product of their environment, genetics, and psychological make up including their temperaments and ability to cope with life circumstances. Sometimes willpower is not enough, and people need support. In furthering her education, Vanessa hopes to be an advocate for those who want to express their voice and are unable to do so due to oppression or adversity.
