A Safe Place to Land

When talking about their life, people often share the highlights. The happy childhood memories or their successful college years that ended in a hard-earned degree. But I think the best parts of life, the parts that truly shape you, are found in the imperfect moments.

I couldn't imagine telling the story of my life and not talking about Macy. To most people her tale doesn't have a happy ending, but that's just because they didn't really know her. Her life was filled with imperfect moments, yet she was one of the happiest and brightest people I've ever known.

My life changed the day my older brother invited his best friend over. Four-year-old me had no idea what was in store for her at the time. I've lived a life of loss and heartbreak. Don't feel bad for me, though. It's in all those painful moments that I found what truly matters. While most people will see a girl who has endured a lot at a young age, I hope you can also see that my life is a testimony of faith and love.

I wouldn't trade the imperfect moments for a million perfect ones. If I did, I wouldn't really be me, would I?
