At the age of 18 I fell in love with Kerouac, wandering and all the drugs. After a years of using and running I found a 12-step fellowship that saved my life. There I found a family to raise, started a business and and did all the things normal people do. Although as the years went on I started to become the addict without the drugs. I became self-obsessed, my ego grew and eventually I lost everything but my clean-time. The rebuild was cathartic, but it was raw and true, it was what I needed all my life. I delved deeper into my spiritual practices, deeper into Buddhism, deeper into recovery - I became a truer version of me.

The years tacked on and my life became stagnant, I started to become lost again, so I turned to living a dream I had had for most of my life, wandering the U.S. I built a van, saved the money, closed up my life and took to the road. I was 47 and in search of something, something that would give me meaning, make sense of this life I was living, something new, something to save me. I set out alone on a journey that took me over 18,000 miles, from the west coast to the east coast and most all the places in between.

This book was written during that journey, as much as it's filled with the places I saw and things I did, it has all the things I love and fear and how I survived that time in my life. I was once referred to as a spiritual anarchist and I think that is a fitting label, and in reading this book you might too. Anything is possible, there are no boundaries in life, no hard edges, no dreams to big, no fears to strong to overcome. It's about reigning in the obsession of self, adjusting perceptions, and being in the moment, it's about surrender and acceptance and powerlessness, it's about trusting the voice inside you.
