There are lot of Books written to help you fast track your career, become a CEO, VP, or any corporate level executive in the shortest span of time. These books are good I would say and have good guidelines and tips and even inspirational and motivating. They may really work for you if everything goes as per plan.
But are these rules, philosophies, guidelines, whatever you want to call it, applicable to 90% of the people? To be realistic, it has worked for me only 5% of the time. Real Corporate World is vastly different whatever domain or function you work in. Be it startups, mid-size, fortune 500 in any domain, technology, retail, automotive, consumer electronics, health care, life sciences, energy, utilities, government, telecommunications, finance, banking, insurance, and the list goes on.
I am drafting this book based on my 23 years of experience in the technology industry, to share some of my learnings, based on my work in start-ups, mid-size, and fortune 500 companies and I have reached the middle management layer. And these learnings are generic and apply to any field or domain. May be based on these learnings, you will be able to accelerate your path to 10-12 years.
People often come to me for career advice when they are at the beginning of their career or when they have hit a roadblock and are stagnating or coasting at a particular level. This short book is written as a series of FAQs, which may be applicable to you during any phase of your career. Every chapter or FAQ can be read independently instead of going through the entire book in sequence. This first book is the set of 5 FAQs and answers from my perspective.
I would not say I am phenomenally successful, but thankfully, these rules have helped me survived through difficulties in my career and molded my personality in a unique way. Even today, I am learning new things. And as I progress up the ladder, I will be happy to share another set of FAQ list. So please leverage my ideas with discretion.
I hope this book helps you in your career and you excel more than I did, and you reach greater heights. That itself will be the greatest reward for me.
