The writing in this book is not poems, just as Dr. Seuss's writings, though they rhyme, are also not poems. Even if they look like poems, that is because I studied poetry on my own and found out poetry is more in tune with craft than personal existence itself. Sure, today it is an art form, but to me my writing is a need and a way to get something inward, outward. My desperate need to write is because of existence itself, a subject deeper than any craft in the world of men. I cannot write a poem about a napkin because it just isn't me.
Today's poets will say, "You must show not tell", the problem is they are being too vague, not showing you enough for you to tell. You must understand, most readers won't read poetry to study the craft. It's as if the poet is only writing to the critic and other poets. Most readers will read what comforts them, inspires them, or to communicate something powerful to them and to tell them they are not alone. Being a sufferer of early childhood trauma, I believe it has driven my creativity. I write to you not poetically but intimately with common speech. To the 88% of the population, if my subject pleases them, 'Forever in Pieces' is for you, the common man pondering existence, not the modern poet who writes to the 12% of the nation. I remember when poets could be broken
When passions pen could make you a rock star
When psychoanalyst were not artist
When poems were formed because of veins
(If this is not the case today, then I am not today's poet) In these pages you will get a sense of mortality, immortality, gloom,
childhood lost, fear of the unknown, fragility, writing itself, and the immensity of it all,
It speaks of the very essence of existence itself,
Alcohol, angels, my drive to write, life's struggles, being down and out,
the beauty of life and so much more are in this work.
