The character in this book is a teacher like many others who are in classrooms across this country. She is selfless about what she does, she teaches with pleasure, she earns little, she has a family, which is why she teaches three shifts in different schools. Like most Brazilian workers, she leaves home early and returns late at night. She uses the precarious transport system, faces long traffic jams, suffers assaults, insults and humiliations, but does not lose hope or faith in better days. She is an idealist. Her classes are the most popular where she teaches. They are advanced and objective. For the students she is more than a teacher, she is a friend, a mother, a counselor, a light that illuminates their paths. She has time for everything and everyone. She takes care of her son, her husband, takes part in politics, strikes, demands wages, demands rights, fulfills duties, transmits moral values, and is an example of a perfect citizen for her students. She is a woman, mother and fiber teacher.
