Woodland Stories
This wonderful initiative is supported by the Wisconsin Arts Board! Weeya Agehya Calif's grant to bring together Kaluhya Muscavitch VanEvery and herself for this project demonstrates the power of collaboration and mentorship in preserving cultural heritage. The fact that each artist illustrated their own story adds a personal touch to the project, allowing their unique artistic styles to shine through.
The theme of teaching good living lessons through stories set in wooded areas is not only captivating but also connects deeply with nature, which is often central to Indigenous cultures. It's heartening to see these stories aimed at both children and adults, as they can serve as valuable teaching tools for all ages.
The term "Woodland" is fitting for these artists, as it not only represents their cultural background but also evokes the imagery of the wooded settings in which their stories are based. This collaboration is a beautiful celebration of storytelling, art, and cultural heritage.
These two storytellers have gone on to work together at special events sharing their stories, culture and teachings.| Author: Kaluhya Muscavitch Vanevery |
