Exceptional: A Fictional Memoir
Exceptional: A Fictional Memoir
Science prodigy Eve Green has won a Nobel Prize, solved an important piece of the coronavirus puzzle, and danced with stars, but she is enjoying neither celebrity nor the public's fascination with her controversial family. She decides to tell her startling story herself rather than be at the mercy of the media.
In EXCEPTIONAL, Eve details a pivotal period in her life when, at eighteen, newly graduated from Stanford and determined that her adult life be more normal than her childhood, she heads home to her eccentric parents' secluded Northwest Washington compound to break the news of her engagement to a professor twice her age. It soon becomes apparent that her family is further off the grid than she ever knew. Conflict and curiosity lead her to Hawaii, Poland, and the English Midlands, then finally to California for her journey's singular destination.
Hurd's characters nudge the most entrenched of societal boundaries as they deal with mental and physical challenges, gender dysphoria, and incestuous impulses, all with a bit of humor, noir but nice!
