Needs of Empire
A war has been fought, and won. For the fledgling Southern Empire and its young empress, Myriana, not only do they have to bring together the peoples of the three kingdoms, but they have also suddenly found themselves with diplomatic relations with the Shaler, Mythraan and J'dar after centuries of acrimony.
For Calmagyr Ironsson, ironically the end of the war does not seem to have reduced the expectations placed on him by his friends. At heart he is still a simple country lad, but his achievements during the war, not to mention his engagement to Tamala, the sorceress and Miri's closest friend, keep him at the heart of the Empire and its rule.
For the Source Guide, Asrak, his concerns are more easily explained. His brother, Eshek, is dead. Killed by the very enemy he had betrayed Tamala to, and yet the balance in the magic of the world still holds. How is that possible?
And in a land, far to the south, two children need protection. The man that has pledged his life to that cause will try anything to keep them safe, but sometimes even that is not enough. All they can do is run.
When Cal and Tamala are tasked with joining a diplomatic delegation to the land of Elkara, to the east of Mythra, their course is set to collide with the Daemons once more, for the plan of the Daemon King did not end with the death of his son. Far from it.
