Atal, the self-proclaimed God/King of all Wild Glory had been feeding on those accepted for Selection to Citizenship in Charter City. Getting his slaves to find the best and the brightest Charter City has to offer. Murder is something that none of the inhabitants of the city have ever seen or heard of in their lifetimes. But it doesn't take long before murder becomes all too common. Atal needs the blood of his prophesized bride to finally break free of his prison, but in the meanwhile, he gets the blood of the best in the city. It enables him to perform magic to fool his followers into thinking he is already free. He attempts to find his bride, but the bride he wants is the soul mate of the Prince of the Wilderun, and he had no intention of letting Atal anywhere near his precious mate.
The Prince and his friends leave Charter City and race to Serra, the capital city and the jewel of the Wildling Lands, to prepare the Wilderun to defend itself against Atal. Once before Atal attacked Serra. He razed Serra to the ground, burning everything in sight. The Wildling Lands were devastated, and the population almost wiped out. Before long, Atal would be free to kill again, and he had a personal grudge against the Wilderun. He was determined to finish the job he had started long ago.
Charter City was the capital city of Wild Glory and it had slowly been falling into the darkness that was spreading all throughout the surrounding towns and villages. Atal was feeding on their fear and on their deaths, as he killed everything that lived in each village and town. Charter City became a place of dark despair, surrounded on all sides by the dead and dying and the countryside burned. It burned as Atal fed; Atal would soon be free to punish Wild Glory for his imprisonment. Atal's gift to Wild Glory was ... Death.
