My name is David Garrood, in July 2020 I had an unexpected
stroke, this left me paralyzed on the left side of my body. I
spent months in rehab learning to walk again, learning to
control my body. I had to rebuild the connection. In March of
2024 after a long journey of recovery I was feeling some sense
of things being back to normal. I was away on Holiday to my
home country of New Zealand, this is when I had a second
stroke which set me back many many months of progress. I
began writing these poems while stuck in a hospital as a way
to express myself. I felt compelled to share them on Instagram
and now as a book. I seek to show that no matter how strong
someone is, they always have struggles and darkness to fight
with.
