The man tilted his head, shifting his hood and allowing Nick to catch a glimpse of pitch-black eyes. "If you want to keep the girl safe, then stay away from the dragon's cave. Something bad will happen if you go."
"Is that a warning or a threat?" Nick asked.
"Maybe both." The man gripped his shoulder tighter. "You must not go! Promise me that you will go home to your tiny village and forget about all this."
"I-I promise," Nick said shakily.
The man let go of his shoulder and seemed relieved. "Good. Remember - Danger lies at the dragon's den." Then the man stepped away and melted into the shadows once more.
Three friends. One dragon. A journey that could change the world. Kyain has spent twenty long years under King Drake's tyrannical rule. The citizens have stopped paying taxes to have a break from Drake's high rates, however brief it may be. But Drake has a plan to deal with this minor problem. An evil one, perhaps, but it will get the job done. Nick and his village have been kidnapped by King Drake. After being condemned for a crime they didn't commit, they must embark on a dangerous journey across Kyain. There's just one catch. They're supposed to kill a dragon at the end of their journey. The villagers might find unlikely allies in a talkative scribe and a secretive bookstore owner, but it's what they find at the end of their journey that might have the power to shake off King Drake's tyranny - forever.
