In 1944, Europe is a continent still in flames, subjugated by the iron grip of the Nazi regime during World War II. The Allied forces, aware of the urgency of ending this tyranny, plan a titanic operation: Operation Overlord. This massive assault will culminate in the famous D-Day, the Normandy landings that will mark the beginning of the liberation of Europe.

It is against this historical backdrop that "The Lions of Carentan" takes place, a story that weaves real events with fictional characters into a compelling and moving narrative.

"The Lions of Carentan" follows the events of a group of American soldiers who, with courage and determination, fight for freedom. At the center of the story is Salvo, a young Italian-American, sergeant in the U.S. Army who, despite the harshness of war, retains a deep humanity and a conscience haunted by the actions necessary in battle. Alongside him are John, Angelo, Greg and other soldiers, each with their own stories, broken dreams and hopes. Their deep bond begins on D-Day, June 6, 1944, when, due to some mistakes, a group of a few soldiers fail to reunite with their squads immediately and they form a new one. Having escaped the hell of the Normandy beaches, they manage to reach their command center after facing groups of armed Germans.

The narrative unfolds through intense combat, moments of deep introspection and unbreakable bonds between fellow soldiers. Readers are drawn into the heart of the battles and various missions, particularly in Carentan, a small but strategically crucial town in Normandy. The vivid and realistic descriptions of military operations are balanced by human touches that reveal the fears, emotions and motivations of the soldiers.

The characters and their stories are figments of the author's imagination, who wanted to write each chapter as a tribute to the men who actually fought. A tribute to all those boys and men who were never celebrated in the history books.

"The Lions of Carentan" is not just a war novel; it is a tribute to all the American soldiers who sacrificed their youth, and often their lives, for an ideal of freedom, saving an entire continent that was not their own.

To them the entire novel is dedicated.
