If You Say You Are a Christian...

This book, by design, offers a selection of Bible verses given to us in scripture and directly attributed to Jesus Christ by the authors of the four Gospels and the Book of Acts. These are His words and He states very clearly what the requirements are for one to follow Him. There is a cost of discipleship, and He makes that very clear. But He also gives equally clear instructions on what one must do to achieve such a goal.

The Bible verses are grouped by theme and each verse is cited with the Book, chapter, and verse number, e.g. Mat. 7:21 is Matthew Chapter 7. Verse 21. Mark is shown as Mk., Luke as L., John as J., Acts as Acts. The verses depicted in this book were excerpted from the New King James Version (NKJV) but any Bible the reader prefers can be used since all verses are clearly identified.

The verses in this book were compiled and grouped with the utmost care. Selection of each passage was driven by a desire to have each one deliver a clear message as a "stand-alone" piece. Where verses fit together seamlessly, many are grouped as one entry to best portray the complete thought. After several reviews of all selected entries, three distinct themes emerged: Jesus establishing His relationship with God and with us, Jesus providing instructions on how we should live our daily lives, and Jesus specifying His demands for how we must live with one another. It is my sincere hope that the reader would find this collection of Scripture verses to be a useful reference guide in understanding His word and perhaps also serving as an inspiration to further study the Bible as part of one's quest for discipleship.
